Getting started

Where do I start?

In the Locations tab, add a cellar for each home, then its racks (rows and slots) or areas. Then add bottles from the Bottles tab with "+" or by scanning.

Sync

How do my iPhone and iPad stay in sync?

Through your iCloud account. Sign in to the same Apple Account on both devices with iCloud turned on. Settings > Sync in Cave shows the status and the last sync time.

Does Cave work without iCloud?

Yes. Your data is then kept on that device only, and sharing is not available.

Sharing

How do I share my cellar with someone?

Settings > Sharing > "Invite someone..." and send the invitation. The other person needs Cave and their own iCloud account. Once they accept, you both see the same cellars and bottles.

How do I stop sharing?

The owner can remove one person or use "Stop sharing" in Settings > Sharing. A person who was invited can use "Leave shared cellars"; this removes their copy only.

Export and import

Can I get my data out?

Settings > Data > "Export CSV" creates a spreadsheet file with one row per bottle that you can open in Numbers or Excel.

Can I bring my list from a spreadsheet or CellarTracker?

Settings > Data > "Import CSV" reads your own sheet, a Cave export or a CellarTracker list (CSV). CellarTracker places are not imported; add Rack and Row columns to your own sheet to import places. An Undo button appears right after the import. See the import guide (en français) with an example file.

Erase

How do I delete everything?

Settings > Data > "Erase all data...". Cave shows what will be deleted, offers to export a backup first, asks you to type ERASE and to confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. If your cellars are shared, the erase also removes them for the people you share with. It cannot be undone.

Drink windows

Where do the suggested windows come from?

From a table built into the app, by appellation, region, colour and style. They are general guidance, not a promise about a given bottle, and vintage quality is not taken into account. You can edit any window; dates you set yourself are kept when the suggestions are recomputed.

Languages

Which languages does Cave support?

English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Arabic. Cave follows your device language; on iPhone and iPad you can also choose a language for Cave alone in the Settings app > Apps > Cave > Language.
